Too Many Unanswered Questions About AI
I always knew that there was something sinister, yet admirable, about the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Linda Hamilton pulled off one of my personal favorite acting performances of all time when she warned us all about the dangers of Skynet, an artificial superintelligence system that would ultimately launch an attack of nuclear proportions on humanity itself. In the movie, her son, John Connor, is the leader of the resistance who needs to prevent Judgment Day, but not without the help of a futuristic Terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
As an 11-year-old boy, my imagination was already captured by this brilliant Steven Spielberg film, and the impact of this film on my life has been notable. Today, 35 years later, I shudder to think about how far technology, robotics, and AI development have gone, with filthy rich entrepreneurs allegedly already building underground bunkers and using data centres as a central hub to power these machines or whatever they plan to unleash on us, if the conspiracies turn out to all be true. By God, I hope that these are fictional realities or that our fears would somehow be replaced by some good news or something worth celebrating instead of terrifying us!
In the movie T2: Judgment Day, scenes of children playing in a park, being scorched by a wave of nuclear fire, still haunt me today! It is certainly one of the most powerful images ever portrayed by any filmmaker in an attempt to almost warn us of inevitable destruction by machines that were made by man, and which became self-aware and ultimately unstoppable. Today, in 2026, people are rightfully calling for the slowing down of AI development as fears are growing of AI eventually becoming too intelligent for humans to control. It is said that AI could potentially wipe out 10% of the human race, and major AI developers such as OpenAI and Anthropic have urged lawmakers to regulate it.
Amongst the many disastrous possibilities which already exist in our AI- driven future are the following: 1) Economic disruption as machines replace human labor across various sectors; 2) highly capable models could be used to launch cyber-attacks, orchestrate espionage, or assist in biological warfare; and 3) AI models might soon upgrade their own code without human help- making them impossible to control. It’s best we slow down this madness, this obsession with winning the AI race against China… It’s time we take stock of our actions and be more responsible stewards of what God gave us to have dominion over!
