An open letter to John Steenhuisen
Former leader of the Democratic Alliance, John Steenhuisen, has recently opened many South African’s eyes when he blasted White Afrikaner folk, calling them ‘Nationalists, Tribalists and even ‘racists’. I was shocked, to say the least! Never have I come across a politician with such thick skin!
To Mr Steenhuisen, as a White, middle-aged Afrikaans-speaking Durban resident, I’d like to say to you: how dare you stoop so low by calling us liars and racists? For decades, I have voted for you and your party as I really believed in your words and your mission, but boy, was I a fool! The way you and your secretary, Jana le Roux, made fun of the farmers at their darkest and most vulnerable hour left me feeling sick to my stomach! You tell the media that you ‘did not want to lie at the White House’, but it doesn’t take a Nationalist to condemn the type of violence we see here on our farms in SA, where the most brutal, unthinkable acts of violence are used to torture and kill White farmers. Of course, it cannot be classified as genocide, but ethnic cleansing of a minority group through systematic government legislation such as BBBEE is already a form of economic Genocide and exclusion!
Not only White Afrikaner folk, but many other DA voters who have supported you and your so-called democratic party, will now have to reconsider voting for you and Geordin Hill Lewis. Since the formation of the GNU, you, John, have been blinded by benefits, and the ANC tonic that was given to you clearly caused some sort of cognitive malfunction. You have said and done things unimaginable to most of us DA faithfuls, and just when we thought you had reached your limits with regards to how arrogant you had become, and how insensitive you have proven to be towards minority groups, you simply double down on the rhetoric that White Afrikaners have planned some sort of Nationalist agenda for many years now! What rubbish, Mr Steenhuisen!
When you needed South African’s votes the most, during your time in the opposition benches, we gave you all the support you needed to grow your party, but now, it seems the DA has turned out to be nothing but a Democrat-like, please-every-person-possible flip flopper party, with no identity and no direction, hammering on what it calls ‘clean governance’ and relying solely on its large advertising campaign and riding the wave of their Western Cape ‘success’, ignoring the fact that in other major metros such as KZN and Jhb, you have deserted our people!
To every voter out there, take careful note of Steenhuisen’s actions and be aware of how the DA had been parading as a ‘party for all people’, whilst simultaneously pushing Afrikaners aside and welcoming the likes of pro-Palestine voters to seemingly garner more votes. The DA has completely sacrificed its principles at the altar of the voting public, and I, for one, regret all the years I voted for John and his turncoat party of smooth-talking, people-pleasing cadres. To John Steenhuisen: maybe it’s time you completely step away from politics and go enjoy your GNU-sponsored millions in Italy or Greece, or perhaps on a hammock in the Seychelles!
