Do Away With Freedom Day, or Change Race Laws
27 April marks Freedom Day in South Africa, since 1994 saw our first free and fair elections take place, and our first Black president, Nelson Mandela, elected by the people. Citizens of all races could vote, and the potential for a near-Heavenly South Africa became a reality. Only until Zuma stepped onto the scene, and the ANC became a movement enraged with revenge politics and an unquenchable thirst for power and ‘redress’.
As Ramaphosa so often puts it so eloquently and repetitively- “we must address the ills of the past”, and “South Africa belongs to all who live in it”….only thing is…it is not true. South Africa is currently captured, controlled and being demolished by a select few who parade as the Saviours who ended Colonialism, at the expense of well, 99% of the country! Not only do they fly Business class, enjoy unlimited petrol, travel the World and eat the best meals at the most expensive restaurants, but they also get to lie to the people of SA, year in and year out, about the need for redress when they themselves, are using 142 race laws to counteract the very disgusting things that the Apartheid government did to Black people 40-50 years ago.
Why are we even celebrating Freedom Day, when poor Black people sit around on street corners begging for money, even young children being subjected to these same humiliating acts? Why do we celebrate despite SA having one of the highest unemployment rates in the World, and being touted as the most unequal nation on planet Earth? Why do we even take time to reflect when 142 race laws are literally shutting out White people and subjecting them to what I call Economic Genocide? As if this isn’t bad enough, our President refuses to acknowledge the devastating effect of farm murders on our society, and our food system, and our constitution allows for Julius Malema to say whatever he wants to, and do whatever pleases him, whilst Penny Sparrow and Vicki Momberg are punished severely for less serious crimes. Ramaphosa probably thinks that farm murders are going to stop automatically, despite chants of ‘Kill the Boer’ and the EFF’s ongoing racially charged rhetoric. Perhaps he doesn’t find it strange or highly inflammatory, since he is Black and enjoys the privileges of being our number 1 Citizen?
As a White Afrikaner living in SA, I have seen the extreme decay in our cities and municipalities since the Zuma years, and it is safe to say that Ramaphosa took the baton from Zuma and ran with it- KZN is a shadow of what it used to be, and under ANC rule, even World class towns such as Knysna are buckling under the pressure of Cadre deployment, ANC corruption and non-existent service delivery. Freedom Day is nothing but a habitual celebration of things we wish we had! It’s a smoke screen to the World which only serves one purpose: hiding the realities of a South Africa which has become worse than the original Apartheid version! As Ramaphosa’s words continue to ring hollow, our people mourn the crippling of a once radiant, potentially world-class African country. Viva Reverse Apartheid!
