Blatant Gaslighting on the Opinion Pages of The Mercury

Mercury opinion page gaslighting

Having read Ebrahim Essa’s latest opinion piece regarding Israel, South Africa and Apartheid on April 1st, I honestly thought it was an April Fool’s joke! It was that distasteful!

Essa has no conscience, nor filter, as he bulldozes ahead with his anti-Afrikaner, anti-Israel and anti-American rhetoric- badmouthing everything he possibly can where it involves White Afrikaner folk or Capitalist leadership such as that of Trump and Netanyahu’s government. Essa finds it irresistibly satisfying to use Israel and the US as scapegoats when the whole World can see that Iran is the terror hub of the entire Global population. One must also be cognizant of the fact that Essa will never tell his readers about the facts on the ground in Iran, a country which is bleeding economically, suffering all sorts of setbacks, and can be characterized by the severe divide between its evil government, the IRGC, and the people of Iran (much like here in our own Rainbow Nation).

What’s possibly the most shocking about Essa’s letter is his reference to the fact that Israel might soon not exist anymore, thanks to his maniacal Hamas and Hezbollah ‘Freedom fighters’, who are known for their brutal, inhumane aggression, even against the Gazan people who won’t support their evil causes! Imagine if I gleefully admired the death of a certain people-group, simply because I thought that killing them all would fit in with my ideological fantasies! Even death doesn’t satisfy the supporters of Radicalism-it is merely a tool for their ideological pipe dreams. The loss of life through terror acts is merely seen as a necessity in the eyes of those who witness the strength of Israel and the US, as they try to rid the Middle East of tyrannical rule. Killing Jews has become the centrepiece of Radical Extremism. If Israel, being so small, wanted to occupy the whole Middle East, why is it happy to accommodate Muslims, Druze and all other people-groups in its own backyard?

My advice to Essa is to let go of his obsession with Apartheid and to go and visit Israel to see for himself how Christians, Muslims, Druze and Jew communities all live peacefully together and all occupy positions of influence within government and are all allowed to worship freely-unlike most Muslim countries where Shiates and Sunni’s battle it out for ideological dominance whilst it’s own citizens suffer collateral damage. As for Essa’s views on Afrikaners and Apartheid..we are now 30 years into democracy, and it’s time to move on. This drum has been beaten so much that it rings hollow, and those who still bang on it need to ask themselves: when will you ever forgive?
