afrikaner-resettlement

After reading Dugan Brown’s letter titled ‘Resettlement of Afrikaners in the US rooted in refusal to co-exist’ in the Mercury of 16 May, it needs scrutinising!

Firstly, Brown’s assertion that Afrikaners are fleeing democracy and diversity is beyond absurd! Please do not confuse democracy and diversity with an effort to secure a better future for your wife and kids in the face of very aggressive race-based legislation and an all-out attack on minority groups’ basic human rights! The right to find a job despite my skin colour is not a privilege but a sign of meritocracy and fairness! The right to produce food for the rest of my nation is not a privilege; it’s an honourable act of selflessness whilst feeding my own family, which deserves praise! The right to walk freely in the streets without being threatened by another race because of my country’s complicated past is not a privilege; it should be a given! Having Afrikaans taught in as many schools as possible is also not a privilege but a must in a country where the influence of this beautiful,  rich and uniquely expressive language adds to the spectrum of your so-called ‘diversity’.

Why must any Afrikaner family be happy losing jobs due to their skin pigmentation? Why must White Afrikaner folk, after 30 years of democracy, still have to pay the price for what a previous generation did, not even in our names? Should an Afrikaner feel guilty for eating biltong and wearing veldskoens in his own country because of the stigma of what the previous Afrikaner-government did to Blacks? Why can’t we just be left alone to enjoy the same opportunities, the same safety and the same protection as any other race, Mr. Brown? Don’t you think it’s a shame when any race or people group have to emigrate or flee their own country due to ongoing unnecessary persecution and threats?

The chanting of Julius Malema to ‘kill the Boer, shoot the farmer’….. the crippling BEE legislation that has been weaponized by the ANC government to ensure payback for Afrikaners in the name of ‘Transformation’ and the actual farm murders which take place, and have been proven, even today, is a bit of an overkill, don’t you think? Especially after 30 years of ANC rule! Is one farm murder not enough to create awareness, Mr Brown? Or how about 10 farm murders? Oh, wait, we have become so used to it by now in South Africa that it doesn’t really matter anymore, does it? The same goes for rape, corruption, and human trafficking—we have become completely desensitized by the daily occurrences of these hate crimes, so much so that even the most shocking and horrific events are not even front-page-worthy news anymore! How sad!

Maybe Mr Brown has a better idea for Afrikaners? Perhaps they should just ‘suck it up,’ as they say? After all, what’s so bad about having jobs taken away from you simply because you are too White or your farm, without any compensation whatsoever? What does it mean, anyway, that generations have built up these farms to ensure food security for the average South African citizen? Maybe Mr Brown thinks that we should all become farmers, despite our limited knowledge regarding agricultural products and methods. Let’s just give land away freely to whoever wants it! Or how about completely abolishing Afrikaans so that our diversity can diminish? Even our National rugby team cannot be selected via merit!

In the end, what every person who is critical towards these refugees should understand is that until you have walked in the shoes of these Afrikaner families, you have no right to criticise them for seeking a better life! Shame on all who dare to call them ‘cowards’, Mr. Ramaphosa-you who drive the most luxurious cars, wear Gucci shoes and enjoy your blue light protection! It’s very easy for those who own 13 properties and earn over 1 million per month to call middle-income White Afrikaners cowards!

To Mr. Brown, your accusations of Afrikaner entitlement and them ‘not accepting the society they live in’ are a very far cry from reality and, quite frankly, are as ridiculous as Ramaphosa acting shocked about the state of Johannesburg, when he has been living in it for how many years! The hypocrisy knows no end! Enough said!
