One of the most effective ways of hiving off stress is to be close to the water – whether it is the sea, a waterfall or, better still, a peaceful stretch of water that is as still as a pane of glass.

While many choose luxury lodges positioned close to rivers and waterholes, we’ve chosen to help you explore the legendary Lake Jozini, one of South Africa’s oldest wildlife havens, from far closer – aboard luxury houseboats, the Shayamanzi 1 and the Shayamanzi 11.

The boats, which are similar in design to the houseboats of Lake Kariba and are captained by the crew who have explored the world’s largest man-made lake, help you discover this water wonderland in the heart of the Kingdom of the Zulu. Surrounded by the luxury of the upstairs lounge and bar, bobbing in the large onboard Jacuzzi or languishing in a luxury cabin peeking out over the water’s edge, passengers might even spot a fish jumping, a family of elephants frolicking in the shallows or hear the throaty grunt of a wallowing hippo.

Shayamanzi I sleeps up to 12 and Shayamanzi II sleeps up to 24 in ultra-comfortable, en-suite, oak-panelled cabins, making this the perfect way to enjoy a family getaway or time out with special friends. From your private cabin, a full-length glass sliding door lets you gaze out just above water level, waking to a magnificent sunrise or falling asleep to the calls nocturnal creatures.

The houseboats cruise across the 16 000 ha expanse of open water at a gentle 9 knots, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent landscape from the deck. Smaller tender boats are used for early-morning and late-afternoon fishing and up-close game-viewing and birding trips along the edge of the lake.

Whereas once, the territory along the edges of the splendid Lake Jozini was home to commercial farmers, it is now the exclusive domain of Maputaland’s wildlife.

The Pongola River enters Lake Jozini to the north had made its way through the ruggedly beautiful Lebombo mountains. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Pongola Nature Reserve follows the shores to the north and south and the privately-owned Pongola Game Reserve continues on to the west backed by the majestic Lebombo Mountains.

Apart from being a mecca for feisty tiger fisherman & fisherwomen, this is the perfect place for game enthusiasts, bird watchers and photographers to get a look at magnificent antelope, rhinos, crocodiles and an array of water birds from a whole new vantage point – the water.

Expect to dock in different parts of this incredibly diverse stretch of water and to raise your glasses to one of the most unforgettable sounds of Africa – the echoing call of the fish eagle – as you make some unforgettable memories during your time with us.

In addition to mid-week and weekend-long sojourns on the peaceful waters of Lake Jozini, Shayamanzi also allows those who are passing through the rugged region to enjoy brunch, luncheon and sundowner cruises.

To take advantage and explore the adventurous side to you, contact the Shayamanzi Houseboats team during office hours on 032 5254076 or email them at shayamanzi@saol.com to enquire on availability!

Johannesburg, 4 March 2021 Air France is today unveiling its new in-flight safety video, an elegant, lively and fast-moving showcase of French culture. Incorporating all the latest regulatory changes in force, this video symbolises the essence of the Air France brand and is an invitation to travel for everyone all over the world, where the airline declares its love of France and its lifestyle.

In the video, two flight attendants explain the safety instructions to passengers from all walks of life, travelling together from one iconic landmark to another, places that highlight the best of France, to the tune of lively melodies, inspired by musicals.

In an instant, passengers are transported from the steps of the Opéra Garnier to the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, from the sunny French Riviera to the legendary Hotel Martinez. The stroll continues through the vineyards of Provence, past museums, a fashion show, a typical French café terrace and along the banks of the Seine and its famous booksellers. So many fascinating places just waiting to be discovered and admired.

The safety briefing ends at the top of the sparkling Eiffel Tower, where an Air France crew greets the airline’s customers.

Watch the ad below!

In this poetic tribute to the art of French-style travel, Air France seeks to capture everyone’s attention in order to deliver its safety instructions in a joyful, elegant and colourful video. Six years after the last video was released, this film is adapted to all the various different aircraft and cabin layouts.

Catherine Villar, SVP Customer Experience Air France, said: “With this new video, we are showcasing the best France has to offer in an emotionally engaging way. All our teams here at Air France are ready to welcome our customers and highlight this French lifestyle, which is so dear to us, as soon as they board our flights. We can’t wait to reopen the skies, flight after flight, with safety as our absolute and constant priority.”

Wouter Vermeulen, General Manager Southern Africa Air France-KLM, adds “Air France’s new on-board safety video is the perfect introduction to everything France has to offer. With a nod to fabulous French destinations, fashion and food, the video highlights everything tourists can expect from their visit to the country and so much more – when they’re comfortable to travel again. Staying true to the elegance of the brand, the video is the perfect introduction to a trip of a lifetime while also tastefully sharing important safety notices one should take note of ahead of their flight.”

The company developed this film with the creative talent of its new communications agency Aura by Omnicom and in partnership with Atout France, France’s tourism development agency. The video was produced by French director and scriptwriter Romain Quirot. The music, created especially for the occasion, was written by Ludovic Bource, a French composer who has won a César and an Oscar.

Air France would like to thank Atout France, the Opéra national de Paris, the Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, the Château de Versailles and the Hotel Martinez Cannes for their support and hospitality.
