Bravo Africa Announces the Premiere of Next Gen NYC Season 1

Johannesburg, 23 July 2026: Starting 9 August at 7 p.m., Next Gen NYC Season 1 arrives on Bravo Africa (DStv Channel 124), airing two episodes every Sunday until the finale on 30 August. The series follows an ambitious group of young New Yorkers as they pursue success, build relationships and discover what it really takes to make it in the city that never sleeps.

The series will follow Ariana Biermann, Riley Burruss, Ava Dash, Emira D’Spain, Shai Fruchter, Gia Giudice, Brooks Marks, Georgia McCann, Hudson McLeroy and Charlie Zakkour as they establish their identity and shape the cultural zeitgeist, all while diving headfirst into the chaos that is NYC living.

Next Gen NYC follows a tangled web of friends raised in the spotlight – or at least close enough for good lighting – as they stumble into adulthood one brunch, breakup and spontaneous decision at a time. Whether stepping out of their parents’ shadows or creating their own legacies from scratch, these twenty-somethings are determined to conquer Manhattan – if they can figure out how to adult first. Together, they’ll navigate friendships, careers and romance, proving that trouble runs on espresso martinis and questionable decisions.

The series also features The Real Housewives personalities, Kandi Burruss, Teresa Guidice, Meredith and Seth Marks and Kim Zolciak-Biermann, as their children embark on their next chapter in the Big Apple. Chole Marks also appears alongside her brother Brooks, shaking up the group dynamic.

About the cast:

Ariana Biermann is the first in her family to leave Atlanta and step out on her own – no safety net, no family backup, just high-school sweetheart Hudson, a dream of launching a streetwear line, and a one-way ticket to New York City. Growing up with mum Kim Zolciak-Biermann on The Real Housewives of Atlanta taught her how to navigate chaos, keep her circle tight and always stand up for what’s right. Can she build a life on her own terms or is she about to learn that Southern loyalty doesn’t always translate in the big city?

Riley Burruss may have music legend and The Real Housewives of Atlanta veteran Kandi Burruss as a mum, but she’s determined to make her mark on her own terms. Riley hustled through her NYU years, snagging every high-profile internship in sight. Level-headed and totally unfazed, she says exactly what she’s thinking, which makes her the go-to for people who can handle the truth. Now she has one year to discover her true passion (or it’s off to law school and a 9-to-5 life) and with childhood friend Ariana Biermann suddenly back in her orbit, things are about to get a lot more dramatic. Can Riley figure it all out or is growing up about to serve her a major reality check?

Ava Dash has always had that it factor. The daughter of music mogul Damon Dash and fashion icon Rachel Roy, Ava was surrounded by legends from day one, but she’s never needed a famous last name to turn heads. Cool, calm and effortlessly collected, Ava is the girl every guy wants to date and every girl wants to be. She grew up in Tribeca and after years in L.A., is now back in the city, pursuing modelling full-time. With a new guy in the picture and fresh faces entering the circle, Ava’s effortless reign as the group’s most-wanted might not be so effortless after all.

Emira D’Spain has hustle in her DNA. Born in Dubai and raised in Dallas, she turned her NYU degree and a killer internship into a coveted role as Paper magazine’s beauty director, and now she’s thriving as one of New York’s most successful content creators. Ambitious, driven and always two steps ahead, Emira lives life on her own terms and never apologizes for her success. She usually stays above the fray when drama unfolds, but this summer, balancing romance and friendship loyalties might disrupt her perfectly planned hustle.

Shai Fruchter has spent his whole life adapting – from growing up between Israel and China to transplanting into a suburban New Jersey high school. Now after a year in Manhattan’s eclectic East Village, he’s finally free to explore creativity, romance and the endless pursuit of authenticity, but joining this circle of bold, connected, and ambitious friends might be more than he bargained for.

Gia Giudice might be Jersey royalty thanks to her mum, The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice, but she’s determined to build a legacy all her own. Fresh out of college and with law school on pause, Gia is juggling schedules to see her long-term boyfriend and hustling nonstop between New Jersey and Manhattan. Gia’s survived a lifetime of family drama in the public eye, making her fiercely protective of family and friendships. But while Gia has plenty of drive, the actual drive into the city might just push her over the edge. Despite Gia’s ambitious and loyal nature, the pull of Manhattan might shift her priorities.

Brooks Marks wasn’t born into the spotlight – he walked right into it (in a perfectly tailored tracksuit) when his mum, Meredith Marks, made her debut on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City while he was in college at NYU. Now a fashion entrepreneur, Brooks has big dreams — but his real talent is finding himself in the middle of drama, despite claiming he hates conflict. As he turns 25, Brooks faces a major crossroads: step out from under his mum’s shadow, or keep playing referee between family demands, messy friendships and a never-ending to-do list. Can he finally put himself first or will his signature poker face crack under the pressure?

Georgia McCann is New York’s ultimate Gen Z it-girl – bold, brilliant and unapologetically original. A fourth-generation New Yorker, Georgia fiercely defends the city’s artistic soul from developers and finance bros alike. As a brand and events creative strategist, Georgia rules the downtown scene. The city has always been her first love, but this summer a surprising romance and shifting friendships might shake things up, threatening to leave Georgia’s carefully curated world in turmoil.

Hudson McLeroy comes from an Atlanta family known for massive self-made success, and he’s already had early success on his own as an investor. Now he’s heading straight into the hustle of New York City, all in the name of love. He and Ariana Biermann have been on-again, off-again sweethearts since junior high, and while they might seem like a match made in heaven, navigating Manhattan’s social scene can be taxing on any relationship. Hudson’s got charm, ambition and a Southern gentleman’s manners, but can he handle this circle of friends (and frenemies) or is fitting in about to become his riskiest investment yet?

Charlie Zakkour is a crypto trader and private investor who’s been ruling NYC’s club scene since he was 14, and he knows everyone (and their secrets). Charming but blunt, Charlie says exactly what’s on his mind, and sometimes what others wish he wouldn’t. Beneath his tough exterior, he’s fiercely loyal, especially to close confidants like Ava Dash. For the first summer in years, Charlie finds himself basking in his autonomy, but he might find being unattached creates more drama than ever.

Next Gen NYC Season 1 is produced by 9th Degree Productions. Michaline Babich, Shari Levine, David O’Connell, Chaz Morgan, Michelle Schiefen, Lauren Nathan and Ariel Algus executive produce.

Next Gen NYC Season 1 premieres on Bravo Africa (DStv 124) on 9 August at 7 PM, with back-to-back episodes every Sunday until the season finale on 30 August 2026.

Johannesburg, 3 March 2026: National Geographic Documentary Films has launched the trailer for the feature-length documentary GHOST ELEPHANTS, directed, written and narrated by Werner Herzog (“Grizzly Man”) and produced by Ariel León Isacovitch and Herzog. Airing on National Geographic Wild (DStv 182, Startimes 221) on Wednesday 11 March at 6 PM (CAT) and streaming on Disney+ in South Africa, the film follows South African National Geographic Explorer Steve Boyes on an epic journey as he sets out with some of the last remaining master trackers in the world in pursuit of an animal long believed to be a myth.

In the mist-covered highlands of Angola, deep within its forests, a mystery endures: the elusive ghost elephants of Lisima, the potential living descendants of the largest land mammal ever recorded. Steve Boyes, conservation biologist and leader of the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project, is determined to prove their existence.

In order to find these elusive elephants, Boyes and fellow National Geographic Explorer Kerllen Costa have teamed up with three KhoiSan master trackers – Xui, Xui Dawid, and Kobus – to succeed where advanced technology could not.

Directed, narrated and written by legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog, GHOST ELEPHANTS is a lyrical tale of survival, reconnection and the enduring power of ancient knowledge in the face of modern loss. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Herzog received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

Complementing the film is the coffee table book “Okavango and the Source of Life” by Steve Boyes, releasing in tandem with the documentary. The book expands the journey beyond the screen, featuring more than 100 striking photographs, detailed maps, and Boyes’ personal reflections from years of grueling expeditions to the Angolan headwaters of the Okavango. It documents the same remaining waterways, communities and fragile ecosystems explored in the film, conveying the physical and emotional toll of navigating a wilderness long closed off by war. With a foreword by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and portraits of local traditional knowledge keepers, the book offers an intimate and visually rich companion to the cinematic experience. “Okavango and the Source of Life” is available for preorder now.

GHOST ELEPHANTS is directed, narrated and written by Herzog. It is produced by Herzog for Skellig Rock, Inc. and Ariel León Isacovitch for The Roots Production Service. Sobey Road Entertainment is the producing partner with Brian Nugent, Andrew Trapani, Emerson G. Farrel, David Sze, David B. Kirk, Terrence Battle, Richard Sneider, Christopher White and Casey Graf as executive producers. For National Geographic Documentary Films, Carolyn Bernstein, executive vice president of Documentary Films, and Tim Horsburgh, vice president of Documentary Films, are executive producers.

Johannesburg, 30 January 2026: This February, National Geographic Wild (DStv 182, Starsat 221) turns its focus to Africa’s most iconic predators in Big Cat Month, with premieres airing every Sunday from 6 PM to 8:30 PM (CAT) from 1 – 22 February 2026, as well as additional big cat-themed programming. Big cats are creatures of strength, instinct and quiet beauty, yet many face growing pressure in a changing world. Through visually striking storytelling and intimate access, Big Cat Month follows lions, leopards and cheetahs as they navigate triumph, loss and relentless competition across some of Africa’s most dramatic landscapes.

Premiere Programming Includes

Big Cat Planet – Sunday 1 February at 6 PM and 8:30 PM

Big cats may appear predictable, but survival demands flexibility. This powerful special reveals how their instincts remarkably shift under pressure, with African predators adapting their hunting styles, territories and behaviour as landscapes change and resources grow scarce.

Mashatu: Land of Leopards – Sunday 8 February at 6 PM and 8:30 PM

Filmed over three years at Botswana’s Mashatu Game Reserve, this documentary follows a mother leopard and her cubs fighting for survival in a harsh, drying environment. Advanced low-light and drone technology capture rare leopard behaviour as the family faces climate stress, shrinking territory and rising conflict within one of Africa’s most important strongholds for free-roaming leopards.

Killer Safari: Big Cat Battle Compilation – Sunday 15 February at 6 PM and 8:30 PM

Africa’s most intense wildlife encounters are brought together in this gripping compilation. From ambushes to narrow escapes, big cats clash with rivals and unexpected threats, revealing how quickly fortune can turn in the bush.

Savage Kingdom: Clash of Clans Compilations – Sunday 22 February at 6 PM and 8:30 PM

The big cat drama returns in Northern Botswana, where peace never lasts, and power is constantly challenged. As dominance shifts and rivalries reignite, the fight to protect territory and legacy drives every decision.

Additionally, National Geographic Wild will air big cat-themed programming after every premiere, with highlights to look forward to, including Malika: The Lion Queen and Soul of the Cat. Jaguar: Jungle Icon of Guyana, Serengeti Speed Queen, Diary of A Teen Leopard, Leopard Kingdom and The World’s Most Famous Tiger.

Big Cat Month airs exclusively on National Geographic Wild.

Universal TV DStv 117 Broadcasts Maigret Across Africa

Johannesburg, 15 January 2026: Brand-new crime drama Maigret will premiere on Universal TV (DSTV 117) on 29 January at 8 PM with back-to-back episodes every Thursday until the season finale on 12 February 2026.

Starring Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim), this six-episode series contains a closed-ended story in each two-hour block, opening with Maigret & the Lazy Burglar in which Maigret tracks down the brutal killers of a skilled burglar while taking down a team responsible for daring bank heists that have plagued Paris. Maigret’s Failure is the second two-hour block, in which Maigret tries and fails to protect Ferdinand Fumal, one of the richest men in France, from the death threats against him. The first season ends with Maigret Comes Home, in which Maigret must draw out the murderer of the young heir to a wealthy perfume family, while at the same time investigating the death of Sophie, the Countess of Saint-Fiacre, the village which is his childhood home.

After his parents died, Maigret left for Paris, rising quickly through the ranks of the Paris Police thanks to his fearlessness and deep knowledge of criminal gangs. He’s an unusual detective – empathetic to perpetrators and indifferent to hierarchy and authority. Newly appointed Chief Inspector of the Brigade Criminelle of the Police Judiciaire, the elite investigative unit of the Paris Police – Maigret works with a team of maverick but loyal detectives who are known as Les Maigrets. His safe place is his home, with his wife, Louise (Stefanie Martini), however, his childhood home still lingers in his dreams with its beauty, its sadness and its unresolved issues.

Meet Les Maigrets

Sergeant Andrea Lucas (Kerrie Hayes) is Maigret’s steady number two and the rock on which the church of Maigret is built. She has something between adoration and a crush on Maigret; that said, she is not blind to his idiosyncrasies.

Sergeant Joseph Torrence (Blake Harrison) is an archetypal detective with a quick wit, deep experience of the streets and knowledge of the criminal mind. Married with grown-up children, he is unfit, drinks too much, and his habits and attitudes are resolutely old school.

Detective Berthe Janvier (Shaniqua Okwok) is confident, stylish, fearless, drives her car too fast, and doesn’t suffer fools. She, much to her own amazement, has fallen in love with the married Torrence and is doing what she can to hide the attraction.

Detective Karim Lapointe (Reda Elazouar) has enjoyed the usual youthful indiscretions, and this is how he caught Maigret’s attention. Lapointe is now the squad’s computer expert, and a bright, intuitive and savvy investigator. Even more than Maigret, he chafes at authority and often struggles with the discipline and respect for rank that is required.

Inspector Justin Cavre (Robert Kazinsky) resents Maigret for his new promotion, leading him to try too hard, claim credit where he shouldn’t and make mistakes where he needn’t. His anxiety isn’t helped by a strained marriage and an expensive wife who frets at the limitations of his salary. They all question his loyalty, perhaps rightfully so.

Prosecutor Mathilde Kernavel (Nathalie Armin) is bright, ambitious and driven. Swiftly climbing the slippery ladder of the legal profession, she is now one of the top Prosecutors working for the Ministry of Justice in Paris.

Maigret, for PBS Masterpiece (US), was produced by Playground Entertainment. This series is directed by Patrick Harbinson, Faye Gilbert and David Evans. Banijay Rights handles international distribution.

Maigret premieres on Universal TV on 29 January at 8 PM, with back-to-back episodes airing every Thursday until 12 February 2026.

Universal TV is available on DStv Channel 117 across Africa

Top Guns: The Next Generation Launches 17 September 2025 on National Geographic

Johannesburg, 2 September 2025: It’s the ultimate test of precision, pressure and perseverance. In National Geographic’s new six-part series TOP GUNS: THE NEXT GENERATION, cameras follow a class of Navy and Marine Corps student pilots as they enter the final and most unforgiving phase of elite strike fighter training. It’s six months of high-stakes aerial training, brutal physical demands, and emotional reckoning, where only the top performers earn the chance to fly the most coveted aircraft. TOP GUNS: THE NEXT GENERATION will premiere on Wednesdays at 20:30, from 17 September 2025, on National Geographic (DStv 181, StarTimes 220) across Africa.

The series goes beyond the cockpit, following ambitious young Navy and Marine students both in the air and off-base, capturing candid moments with family and friends and revealing the personal stakes, sacrifices and motivations that brought them here. Filmed with unprecedented access, it immerses audiences in a world of intense pressure and soaring expectations, where dreams of earning wings of gold collide with the harsh reality of the grueling training. From bombing drills to close-range dogfights and nail-biting carrier approaches, each episode captures the intense demands of a program that challenges their abilities, endurance and resolve at every turn.

While the emotional stakes fuel the story, it’s in the skies where the drama hits full throttle. Outfitted with in-cockpit cameras, the series delivers a breathtaking front-row experience to capture moments of precision, panic and hard-fought triumph as they happen. Filmed by some of the creative talent behind the blockbuster film “Top Gun: Maverick,” the aerial sequences are cinematic and pulse-pounding, pushing the limits of what these student aviators—and their aircraft—can do.

Episodes include the following:

“STRIKE”

One student’s dreams of becoming a fighter pilot are put in jeopardy as the class starts advanced phase training with a set of breathtaking bombing tests. Diving at speeds they’ve never faced before, students struggle with the dynamic moves and start to make high-risk mistakes. Instructors deliver tough assessments in the debriefs to keep the students safe.

“CATCHING THE WIRE”

Landing on an aircraft carrier demands precision flying and is a skill vital for all U.S. Navy fighter pilots. As the students tackle the longest and most technical section of the Advanced Phase, they know it’s a test they must pass to keep their dreams alive. The pressure mounts on some struggling students, and the commanding officer issues a timely warning to one.

“ATTACK ATTACK!”

As the students reach the midpoint of their training, they start the iconic dogfighting phase. Against them are seasoned instructors with hundreds of hours of real-world experience. To pass, they must outmaneuver the enemy to take a “kill shot.” One student has the added pressure of flying with his Top Gun-trained commodore, while another struggles to control his aggressive instincts.

“FIGHT’S ON!”

As they enter the second and most challenging phase of dog fighting, everything is on the line for our students. Defensive dogfighting involves dynamic maneuvers to evade battle-hardened instructors. The physical strain proves too much for one student, while another has a crisis of confidence when past failures come back to haunt him.

“HEAD-TO-HEAD”

The students face their final test in an iconic head-to-head dogfight against an instructor. To pass, they must bring all the skills they’ve learned during their Advanced Phase training. With graduation just days away, students start to worry about their final grades and whether they will get the posting they—and in many cases, their families—want.

“LAST CHANCE”

It’s graduation week. For the remaining students, it means they have one last chance to prove they deserve their prestigious fighter pilot wings. Standing in their way is a tense head-to-head dogfight against an instructor. Past failures come back to haunt one student, and another’s whole fighter pilot future comes down to a single flight with their commanding officer.

Launching on 21 June 2025 at 18:00 (CAT) via National Geographic Wild (DStv 182, StarTimes 221) and Disney+ South Africa, UNDERDOGS offers a subversive take on natural history programming, daring to focus on the animals we rarely see and rarely consider vital.

A Subversive Exploration Of Survival And Resilience

Created by Reynolds’ Maximum Effort in partnership with Wildstar Films (a Fremantle company), UNDERDOGS celebrates the survival stories of creatures often ignored by traditional media. From manatees weaponising flatulence to shrimp that kill with soundwaves, this five-part series turns the wildlife genre on its head.

Speaking on the series, Reynolds noted:

“UNDERDOGS gave me the chance to work with National Geographic and finally make something my kids could watch without trauma. Well, mostly.”

Each episode confronts viewers with questions about our collective bias towards certain species while ignoring others playing equally essential ecological roles.

Unlikely Heroes, Unfiltered Narration

Among the standout features is the series’ refusal to romanticise or sanitise the animal kingdom. Segments like Superzeroes, Terrible Parents, and Total Grossout peel back nature’s polished veneer, exposing its grittier, weirder side.

Award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian, Shrek) scores the series, while Green Day contributes an anthemic title track, Underdog, available on their expanded Saviors (édition de luxe) album.

More Than Entertainment: A Timely Commentary

While undeniably entertaining, UNDERDOGS subtly interrogates our relationship with nature and the media’s role in curating which creatures are worthy of attention. In a world obsessed with influencers and icons, perhaps it’s time audiences consider the overlooked — the invisible custodians of balance and biodiversity.

As modern media becomes increasingly filtered, UNDERDOGS poses a timely challenge: how much of the natural world are we choosing not to see?

Max and Ellis return to solve more high-stakes crimes in Wild Cards Season 2, premiering on Universal TV, 21 April 2025.

Johannesburg – 17 April 2025: Season 2 of Wild Cards, starring Giacomo Gianniotti (Grey’s Anatomy) and Vanessa Morgan (Riverdale), returns to Universal TV on Monday, 21 April 2025. New episodes of the unmissable crime drama air every Monday at 20.00 until the season finale on 14 July.

Wild Cards is a crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist that follows the unlikely duo of a by-the-book, sardonic cop, Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), and a spirited, clever con woman, Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan). They are partnered together, and each uses their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled, shoe-leather police work; for Max, it means accents, disguises, schemes, and generally befriending everyone in sight, while driving Ellis absolutely nuts.

Season 1’s cliffhanger found Ellis about to arrest Max for her heist of a 33-million-dollar jewel, but his feelings of betrayal are sidelined by a bombshell revelation from Max; she’s learned the identity of his brother’s murderer. Season 2 raises the stakes for the duo both in terms of the cases they’re tasked to solve in each episode and their feelings for each other.

From Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller/Segan in association with The CW for commissioning broadcaster CBC in Canada, Wild Cards is created by Michael Konyves. Executive producers include Konyves, pilot director James Genn, Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, and writers Alexandra Zarowny and James Thorpe. Wild Cards is produced by Charles Cooper and Virginia Rankin. The series is overseen by Carolyn Newman, Tashi Bieler and Alix Steerman on behalf of Blink49 Studios. International distribution is handled by FIFTH SEASON.

Season 2 of Wild Cards premieres on Universal TV on 21 April at 20:00, with new episodes airing every Monday until 14 July 2025.

Universal TV is available on DStv Channel 117 across Africa.
