Annual Event Draws Over 3,000 Runners and Raises R50,000 for Sungardens Hospice

Tshwane, 17 June 2025: The 2025 edition of The Grove Mall Race delivered another standout event last month, drawing over 3,000 runners across the 21.1 km, 10 km, and 5 km distances. Organised by Phobians Athletic Club and hosted by The Grove shopping centre, the race continues to cement itself as a staple on the local athletics calendar.

Hillary Chumo and Marelise Retief claimed top honours in the fiercely contested 21.1 km half marathon, each delivering sterling performances on a well-managed, scenic course. Spectators and families gathered in enthusiastic numbers at The Grove, where runners enjoyed seamless parking, quick access to the mall’s outlets, and a festive atmosphere.

Race Day Community Impact

Held in accordance with the regulations of Athletics South Africa and Athletics Gauteng North, the event maintained a professional standard, while fostering a tangible social impact. Proceeds from the race will see R50,000 donated to Sungardens Hospice, a much-needed contribution to the palliative care services provided to patients facing terminal illnesses.

This donation is a reaffirmation of The Grove Mall’s ongoing community-focused initiatives, aiming to uplift and support vulnerable sectors within Tshwane.

A Pretoria Tradition Going Strong

Celebrating its 13th edition, the race has become synonymous with Pretoria’s athletic and social landscape. Its inclusive range of race options continues to appeal to competitive athletes, casual runners, and families alike.

Julie-Anne Claassen, General Manager at The Grove, commented:

“We’re proud to have hosted another successful event that united people through a shared commitment to health, endurance and community. A sincere thank you to every runner, organiser and supporter who helped make this race possible.”
