Serious Misconceptions About Christianity Needs To Be Dispelled

Wonder in Creation: Challenging Misconceptions: Christianity Isn't the Fairy Tale You Think It Is

To say that I was utterly shocked by T. Markandan’s letter in the Daily News of 15 April is an understatement! Then again, maybe his tactic was to get under the skin of his opposing writers? Well, he surely succeeded!

Before I start pulling apart his argument of the Bible being a lie, let me be very clear: your disbelief in a Godly Kingdom that has stood the test of time is not necessarily the absolute truth, Markandan. Is it good that you are asking questions? For sure! We must, and God expects us to choose Him rather than being forced to do so. But to go around badmouthing a faith that has shaped nations, times and events like none other, cannot be left unchecked or unchallenged.
Allow me to correct you on a few misguided comments, sir: Yes, the US sent Hubble and other telescopic instruments to collect data from outer space, but who are we to say that just because the universe is expanding and the Word of God says He created the cosmos in 6 days, to claim that ‘other gods must be busy creating the universe’? What if God the Father created a self-sufficient, ever-expanding universe that wouldn’t need His constant attention? After all, He is God, isn’t He? He can do as He pleases, right? Who are we to box Him in and pretend that He has limits, Mr Markandan? The Bible says that with one breath, God spoke the cosmos into existence—if He is God, who are we to challenge this information or claim that somehow He isn’t big enough to do so? Why would He be God then? Wouldn’t you want to serve a God who can do supernatural things? Or are we seriously considering worshipping a man-made object or item that cannot even speak for itself?
You mention that there must be other celestial beings out in the universe—so what if there are? Does this mean that God has been caught by surprise? But you see, fellow readers, people want to put God in a box so that they can somehow make sense of His majesty and His sovereignty. How laughable! The Word of God says that He (God) created Heaven and Earth—all crawling things, sea creatures, humans and the like. Are we then apes with no conscience, just plodding along on this green floating planet with no hope or purpose of a future King who will reign over everything that He had created? What are we doing here? And if there is no expectation of an afterlife in the Spiritual realm, what is our purpose then, if we all just turn to dust after 60 or 70 years? Maybe then, we are all doomed to a pointless, empty, frivolous life, not so, Mr Markandan? Are we animals, then, with no other purpose but to procreate, eat and sleep? Why do we have emotions, and why is it that we cry when we are hurt, or our hearts ache when a loved one dies? Who gave us this understanding? This feeling of right and wrong? Is it all automatically included at birth? Maybe Darwin, your hero, can explain this to us? Or what is morality? Where does it come from? Was it manufactured in the womb?
To be an unbeliever is perfectly fine, but at some point in one’s life, you have got to ask yourself the question: who am I? What am I doing here? Have I given Hod a fair chance to transform my life, or have I put Him in a box and treated Him like some fairytale god or genie in a lamp who jumps out every time I pray to Him?
Now, regarding your claim that Trump only cares about America and that he is not bothered by climate change, who says he doesn’t care? We are all aware that the weather is a little bit crazy lately, but be careful that leftist, climate alarmism doesn’t become your safe haven! You must be able to distinguish between what is true and what is blown out of proportion for political purposes, Mr Markandan. Do you honestly trust politicians over the Word of God?
I would strongly suggest that Mr Markandan reads the book ‘Snubbing God’, by Victor Kuligin. I myself had questions about creation and other matters, but my heart never grew cold, nor have I claimed to know it all. We are all on a journey, including Mr Trump, to get to know the One who has created us from dust- the One who breathed life into our nostrils and gave us His Spirit—for in this world, if you live without His Spirit, you are doomed to fail. I have seen too much and experienced too many times how the love of a Father has rescued me from myself. In closing, it is written in the Bible, Jeremiah 17, verse 9, reads, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it”?
Let us stop criticising each other’s faith or principles. Instead, perhaps it’s time for us to take a look in the mirror and ask God to help us forgive ourselves.
