Liberty Promenade’s Mandela Day Campaign Honours Changemakers Uplifting Communities Through Consistent Grassroots Service
Cape Town, 26 May 2025 — Liberty Promenade Mall has unveiled its latest Mandela Day initiative, Heroes Among Us, calling on the Mitchell’s Plain community and greater Cape Town to nominate everyday changemakers actively improving lives through consistent, often unseen contributions.
In a strategic pivot from last year’s charity-led drive, this 2025 edition takes a broader, more inclusive approach by recognising grassroots contributors whose impact extends beyond singular charitable acts. These may include teachers, NGO organisers, community coaches, volunteers, healthcare professionals and other unsung individuals effecting daily change within their communities.
Elevating Community Champions Often Left In The Shadows
The initiative is designed to spotlight individuals whose consistent service has long gone under-acknowledged. Nominations will be processed online, with a select group profiled in an in-centre photographic exhibition this July. The exhibition aims to humanise the community’s heroes, pairing striking portraiture with personal narratives of perseverance and community service.
Notably, one standout nominee will receive financial backing of up to R20,000 to expand their outreach efforts — a practical and tangible recognition of ongoing impact.
