Hisense Aims To Raise R500K For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know mammograms can usually detect lumps two to three years before you or your doctor can? Research has shown a 25% reduction in deaths from breast cancer among those who regularly get screened.

In South Africa, women have a one in 29 chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer, with early detection being crucial in saving lives.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hisense is raising funds for non-profit company PinkDrive, based in Randburg, which provides breast cancer education and early diagnostic support to South Africans.

Hisense will donate a portion of its profits from selected products sold in October to PinkDrive and have also set up a BackaBuddy campaign to raise funds for the organisation. The goal is to raise R500 000, which will go towards the upkeep of two of PinkDrive’s mobile mammography units. These units provide screening and breast cancer awareness and information to women who might otherwise not have had access to them.

“PinkDrive’s mantra is ‘Early detection saves lives,’ and we know that early tests and awareness mean a greater chance of survival, which is why we’ve partnered with this incredible organisation,” says Michéle Fourie, marketing manager of Hisense SA. “Through this initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the generosity of our community, we hope that our target will be met so that we can help PinkDrive in the fight for education and early awareness.”

Any additional funds raised will go towards new oncology units at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, to replace those that were burnt down in the April fires this year.
