Eskom Plans 36-Hour Power Outage for Maintenance in eThekwini
Eskom has announced a series of planned 36-hour power outages in eThekwini Municipality to conduct vital maintenance at the Mpumalanga Substation. These outages will occur over three weekends and are essential to improving electricity reliability.
The outages are scheduled as follows:
- Saturday, 25 January, to Monday, 27 January
- Saturday, 1 February, to Monday, 3 February
- Saturday, 15 February, to Monday, 17 February
Power interruptions will occur daily between 05:00 and 17:00 during these periods. The maintenance includes refurbishing electrical infrastructure at the Georgedale Substation, which supplies the Mpumalanga Substation.
Eskom emphasises that this work is necessary to ensure safer, more reliable electricity distribution. Residents, particularly in the Mpumalanga township, are urged to plan accordingly for the disruptions.
These maintenance efforts aim to deliver a higher quality power supply but will require temporary sacrifices from affected communities.
