Correctional Services To Announce Decision On Zuma’s Incarceration Today
On Thursday, Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale, the commissioner of the correctional services, is expected to reveal whether former president Jacob Zuma will serve out the rest of his 15-month sentence in prison.
Zuma was detained at his Nkandla residence in July 2021 and lodged at the Estcourt Correctional Facility.
The Constitutional Court recently denied the Department’s request for leave to challenge the Bloemfontein Supreme Court of challenge’s ruling on Zuma’s medical parole, because there was little chance of success.
Following Zuma’s conviction, riots, looting, and burning broke out in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The violence claimed the lives of almost 350 people and cost the economy at least R50 billion.
