Shoppers Browse Curated Pre-Loved Designer Pieces While Supporting Literacy Initiatives for Children

Johannesburg, 24 October 2025: Fashion meets philanthropy this October as Vintage with Love brings its popular annual “Big Sale” to SOOK Mall of Africa, opposite Yuppiechef. The celebrated non-profit organisation, known for turning pre-loved fashion into powerful charitable giving, will be open from Thursday, 23 to Sunday, 26 October, from 9 AM to 8 PM daily. Shoppers are invited to browse designer treasures while helping transform children’s lives through literacy.

A Shopping Event With Heart

Vintage with Love has grown into one of South Africa’s most inspiring charitable fashion movements, combining sustainability, community and creativity in one. The annual “Big Sale” offers a carefully curated selection of gently worn, high-end clothing and accessories, donated by style-conscious South Africans and sold to raise funds for literacy initiatives across the country.

“There is nothing quite like the buzz of the Big Sale weekend, rails full of fashion, shoppers hunting for their favourite brands, and the knowledge that every purchase makes a difference. It is fashion with real heart and one of the true highlights in our Vintage with Love diary,” says Managing Director, Tracey van Gass.

“We are always looking for fresh, meaningful ways to enhance the Mall of Africa shopping experience,” says Yasmeen Lorgat, General Manager at Mall of Africa. “Hosting Vintage with Love reflects our commitment to innovation and to bringing unique finds to our shoppers. It’s an opportunity to discover sought-after treasures that you simply won’t find anywhere else.”

Expanding on this further, she adds: “This also aligns with our commitment to meaningful community impact and conscious consumerism. Circular fashion is reshaping how we think about style and sustainability, and this initiative allows shoppers to be part of that positive change. It’s fashion with heart, giving beautiful garments a second life while supporting causes that uplift others.”

Fashion That Gives Back

Founded in 2013 by Leigh Ord and Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly, Vintage with Love has built a remarkable legacy of generosity, channelling millions of rands into literacy charities over the past 12 years. What began as a simple idea to sell quality preloved clothing for a cause has evolved into a national movement driven by thousands of donors, volunteers, and shoppers who believe that fashion can create meaningful change.

Shoppers at the Mall of Africa can look forward to uncovering unique pieces, luxury labels and timeless staples, all while supporting a cause that opens doors for children through education.

Johannesburg, 28 August 2025: The Zone @ Rosebank is preparing to turn heads as it will be hosting a fashion showcase with local designer Andile Cana, the founder of Markedbycana. Taking place on Sunday, 31 August, at Regents Place in the centre, the evening event will showcase Cana’s celebrated collection of hand-painted denim jackets, each piece telling a unique South African story through distinct art and design.

During the last 18 months of one lockdown after another and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, South Africans and people across the globe have faced social isolation, financial and economic crises, social unrest and other challenges, all contributing to a decline in mental health. Depression is on the increase and is becoming one of the most common challenges that nearly every person on the planet has come face to face with these past 18 months. Many people have been and continue to be affected on a psychological level by the devastation that Covid-19 has brought. The latest studies show that one-third of South Africans suffer from mental illness and 75% of them won’t receive any kind of therapy or support (Source: Sunday Times).

October 10th is World Mental Health Day, and it is more relevant now than ever before, which is why local rising star and fine artist Farai Engelbrecht AKA Samurai-Farai, who has personally faced and overcome struggles with mental health conditions, has partnered with Reynold Agge, founder of ASA Magazine and Loskop – an all-female owned clothing and apparel brand, and put the spotlight on this growing, devastating issue. The collaboration will launch limited edition printed hoodies for sale to the public via the ASA website, showcasing one-of-a-kind artwork by Samurai-Farai and proceeds will be donated to SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group). The campaign’s secondary aim is to foster healthy and constructive dialogue. South Africans are urged to share their experiences about their own and loved one’s struggles with mental health in order to remind the nation that nobody is alone and through the spirit of Ubuntu we can be here to offer each other support.

ASA Digital is an up and coming luxury lifestyle online magazine that prides itself on celebrating and supporting forward-thinking fashion. Fashion introduces you before you introduce yourself. Fashion adds to our individual facades. Some use fashion as a means of individual creative expression, while others copy styles and trends to fit in. Fashion – consciously or unconsciously – becomes the first layer of judgement or acceptance. It can sometimes lead to an inauthentic expression to the world, one that is misaligned with the perception of one’s authentic self.

“Chosen as a universal symbol of comfort and reassurance, a collection of uniquely numbered, limited-edition hoodies will be produced and sold in this campaign. We aim to use fashion and art as means to generate conversations among various social groups. By offering wearable art, this collaboration sheds light on more mindful approaches to detecting, understanding and dealing with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and suicide,” say Reynold Agge of ASA.

The campaign will officially go live during the month of October and supporters will be able to get involved in the conversation and purchase their hood online at asa-mag.com. Keep an eye out online and on social media by following and using the hashtag #FACEYOURFACADE.

Exhibition features augmented reality & online audio guide

Proceeds go to Reach For a Dream

Johannesburg, 28 September 2021: At a time when South Africans need optimism about the future more than anything, a new collection of visual art celebrating our culture of greatness is providing exactly that. In Good Company, the book, by local artist Marc-Gregory and made possible by Old Mutual Insure, featuring 32 prolific South Africans who have achieved extraordinary greatness, is now available in bookstores and online.

The timeless book features over 100 art pieces, inspiring hope, strength and courage for South Africans with visual art that is powerful and visceral. Personalities that feature in the book include Ayanda Thabethe, Pearl Thusi, J’Something, Gert-Johan Coetzee, Maps Maponyane, Minnie Dlamini-Jones, Master KG, Thapelo Mokoena, Siba Mtongana, Catherine Constantinides and others. The book opens with a foreword by Prof. Thuli Madonsela who also features in the fine art collection.

From musicians to mavericks, humanitarians to health heroes, musicians to chefs, our country has an abundance of talented people that have achieved remarkable feats of all walks of life. In honouring South Africa’s culture of greatness, In Good Company, the book, shares exceptional perspectives and astounding stories through some of our country’s top achievers, both through visual iconography cleverly woven into the fine art and short stories conveying what one can learn from these unique people.

Paging through the book, one will discover how, for instance, Maponyane overcame his childhood stutter and grew to become a distinguished speaker, how Jeremy Loops connects to his creative flow, or how Siba Mtongana sees optimism as the secret ingredient in her culinary creations. One can only wonder at how Khuli Chana reclaimed his personal power after a near-fatal accident or how Farah Fortune went from a struggling single mom to being named Africa’s most influential woman in media. Read about Pearl Thusi’s mental model for success, how Boity learned patience, how Siv Ngesi believes in strength in vulnerability and more.

As an additional experience, many of the art pieces come to life using an augmented reality smartphone app. This enables one to enjoy the selected images with a new dimension.

Describing himself as a “visual alchemist,” Marc-Gregory spent two years creating the collection, assembling South Africans across different walks of life that have achieved incredible accomplishments, and those whose stories have the potential to inspire others to pursue their own potential. While they all share traits of authenticity, clarity of mindset and dedication to their success, there are many stories that will pleasantly surprise you. Many have been recognized with awards for the greatness that they have achieved. Many are current, relevant and recognisable to South Africans. They all have inspiring stories to share. And, as the title of the book suggests, they’re good company.

“When I embarked on this journey two years ago, little did I know how much magic, creativity and dexterity was waiting to be explored. I’ve learnt so much from these accomplished people, and hope that this collection will inspire all South Africans to follow their dreams and acknowledge the greatness they see in each other” explained Marc-Gregory. “Moreover, I hope to make a meaningful contribution to the Reach for a Dream Foundation who do such impactful work in this regard with children” he added.

“As a responsible business, we seek opportunities to deliver cutting-edge Corporate Social Investments that contribute to inclusive, transformative, impactful, and sustainable socio-economic development in the communities where we operate. We have a deliberate partnership approach, that promotes social legitimacy and shared value. In partnership with Reach for A Dream Foundation, we believe that this artistic and visual storytelling journey of South African Greats will inspire your hope, dreams and courage. Funds raised from the purchase of this book will go towards building a dream room that will allow children to have a space to play and dream as all children do – despite their illness,” said Antonia Oakes, Retail Executive of Customer Experience and Responsible Business at Old Mutual Insure.

In Good Company, the book is powered by Old Mutual Insure, in partnership with Reach for a Dream. All proceeds from the book will be used to support children with life-threatening illnesses. Additionally, In Good Company, the exhibition is now on exhibit at Sandton City, where a selection of over 40 of the art pieces can be viewed, together with an online audio guide until 24 October 2021. Some of the pieces come to life using augmented reality.

Now giving away R2 Million towards student debt

Due to an overwhelming response, Converse has doubled the pledge from R1 million and declared an R2 million pledge to the #kickthedebt campaign. Converse acknowledges the need in assistance for students across South Africa and has decided to extend and increase the campaign and its pledge to give more students a chance to kick their debt. They have extended the campaign for another 2 weeks and will end on the 14th March 2021.

The focus of the #kickthedebt campaign is to ease even a small portion of the result of generational economic depression. Converse recognizes and understands the need to back the South African youth and the campaign aims to make a difference as education is prohibitively expensive, and as a result, student debt is incredibly high. Student debt is a prominent issue South African youths face, with an increasing need for the issue to be erased

Converse has made the level of access to entry for students easy by using digital platforms. To combat those barriers, applicants can enter and access the #KicktheDebt nomination form on the Converse e-commerce website; converse.co.za, where friends and family will also be able to motivate for funds. At the end of the nomination phase, both Converse, the influencers and a panel of independent judges will review the nominations and select the ultimate beneficiaries
