ANC Gauteng chairperson Panyaza Lesufi and DA federal council chairperson Helen Zille clash over Cilliers Brink’s removal as Tshwane mayor, with Lesufi urging Zille to promote healing.

Last Thursday, a decisive vote ousted Cilliers Brink from his role as mayor of Tshwane. Source: IOL Politics The motion saw 120 council members in favor, 87 opposed, and one abstaining.

In response, Helen Zille of the DA set a deadline for the ANC: reinstate Brink or face repercussions in metro negotiations. The DA plans to nominate Brink again for Tshwane’s mayoral office, citing a commitment to stabilising the city despite ANC and ActionSA collaboration benefiting the EFF.

Panyaza Lesufi rebuffed Zille’s accusations of parallel ANC governance in Gauteng, emphasising national party decisions regarding coalition formations and provincial governance. This sparked a heated exchange on social media, where Lesufi asserted ANC unity and independence from DA influence.

Lesufi affirmed that the ANC stands united against external pressure and media manipulation, asserting that the ANC in Gauteng remains cohesive under national leadership, not factionalized.
