5FM DJs Tell Us What They Look Forward To The Most This Year
We asked some of our DJs to share what they are looking forward to the most this year. And while not much has changed as far as the global pandemic is concerned, there’s still plenty of positivity and hope, new adventures and plans and finding joy in life’s little pleasures.
Tulani Madala (Tulz on 5, Monday – Fridays 01:00 – 04:00)
“A few things I am looking forward to this year include the UEFA Champions League final, top releases in Hip Hop music from artists like Drake, Cardi B, J Cole, who are all set to release projects. Then the new James Bond movie, the finale season of Money Heist and of course, the end of lockdown in South Africa!”
Nick Hamman (5Drive, Monday – Friday 15:00 – 18:00)
“I have just launched a video podcast with my girlfriend, detailing the life of a COVID-19 healthcare worker. The content for this is available on 5FM’s social media platforms. I’m also continuing my work as the voice and writer of SABC3 show The Insider SA and as a member of the Digital Audio Committee for the IAB. With regards to 5Drive, we have a few major campaigns this year in the works, similar to the Heritage Tour, so encourage listeners to stay tuned.”
Karabo Ntshweng (Early Mornings, Monday – Friday 04:00 – 06:00)
“This is quite a big year for me personally, I’m graduating and turning 30! Unfortunately, there will probably not be any big celebration like I had envisioned but definitely quite excited about these milestones. Last year I voiced the lead in an African animation called SOLA which I’m hoping will released this year!”
Sureshnie Rider (The Roger Goode Show, Monday – Friday 06:00 – 09:00)
“Ah, 2021, the first year I decided not to set out resolutions or even buy a diary because this year I’m living in the moment. Given the turmoil we find ourselves in, I have decided to look at 2021 as an opportunity to live in the moment and make every second count. More kindness, more love, more self-care moments and more time to be grateful for the family and friends I have. This year will be the year I will finally share my podcast Live Learn and Love. I’ve realised there is no time like the present, so this is a little pet project I am working on and hopefully, I will see it come to life soon. If lockdown has taught me anything, it’s my new-found passion for South Korea. I’ve been learning the language and hopefully, I can visit the country soon and take in all the KPOP and K-Drama my heart can handle!”
Kid Fonque (Selective Styles, Sundays 17:00 – 19:00)
“This year I am releasing an album titled Connected – actually it’s out on 5 March. It’s a collaboration with a long-time friend and collaborator Jonny Miller from the UK. It’s a blend of sounds from the UK and SA underground electronic music scene and was produced and completed in two different cities during lockdown in trying times.”
